Watstock Warm Up Reviewed
Our recent warm-up gig at Downham Town Hall was a rare chance to catch three of our very best local bands on the same bill.
The evening was kick-started by Monkey See Monkey Do, who played a great set to the fast-filling Town Hall, including King’s of Leon’s ‘Charmer’. It was an excellent start to the evening with Matt’s usual high-energy vocal style setting the tone for the night.
Next up were The Hoodwinks, as full of enthusiasm as ever! First up was a great version of the Red Hot Chilli Pepper’s ‘By the way’ which set the tone for the rest of the set, including an energetic ‘Teenage kicks’, and wound up with the Jet’s ‘You look so fine’ – brilliant stuff!
Then Birkenhed were back, getting the audience down the front and dancing. The set started out with ‘Good to be back’ – and it certainly was! The band performed lots of old favourites – including the amazing ‘Sex on Fire’, and their own ‘Never gonna pay the rent’. A couple of new additions to the set were the band’s excellent new single ‘Jump & Jive’, Lady Gaga’s ‘Poker Face’, and an unexpected, but welcome, version of Take That’s ‘Greatest Day’
Major thanks to Sam Tooley, Digit and Robert Back for their sterling work behind the busy bar, and of course All the bands for giving us such a great evening.
We made a profit of £968.00, which will all go towards funding the Watstock Festival in July.
Next warm up gig details soon to be announced!!
